Our initial responsibility was to recruit 20 skilled Research Nurses to support the trial’s early phases.

As the study expanded, so did the staffing requirements, encompassing a wide variety of roles such as Clinical Research Facilitators, Study Directors, CRAs, Data Managers, and administrative personnel.

The primary objective was to deliver a sustainable workforce throughout the study, ensuring staff retention, engagement, and welfare across all stages of this groundbreaking project.

A dedicated recruitment team focused exclusively on sourcing nurses and clinical trial professionals. They utilised a multi-channel approach to candidate attraction, employing online and print advertising, job boards, and LinkedIn networks.

Our HR Manager alongside her team, provided ongoing support to both staff and senior leadership, addressing welfare, development, and disciplinary issues throughout the study. To maintain morale and foster team cohesion, we organised team-building days, formal events, and regular staff recognition initiatives to thank everyone for their hard work.

The Salford Lung Study was successfully staffed from beginning to end, enabling the smooth operation of one of the most innovative clinical trials in the world.

Over a six-year period, we provided comprehensive staffing solutions, growing from an initial 20 Research Nurses to a total workforce of around 250 clinical and administrative staff

Many nursing and clinical research professionals advanced their careers through participation in this pioneering study.

Additionally, this project helped CK Group develop a scalable staffing model, allowing us to specialise further in research nurse recruitment and clinical trial staffing for future outsourced projects.
